They’re close, so close,
commented a Validus as her nostrils flared at the potent scent of the despicable creatures known as humanity. The swirling scent hinted terror, deep terror from the bottom of their souls. It was such a tantalizing aroma to the creature who hunted them. A chuckle from the depths of the throat escaped the huntress in pursuit of her prey. Such a sight occurred in nature; it was the way of life. The lion would devour the weak they preyed on, why couldn’t it be true for the humans and demons? To the huntress at work, Lilith was her calling, she preached that the humans were but weaklings that were second upon the chain of power compared the Hell’s minions and Heaven’s counterparts. In Lilith’s eyes, she was doing this creation called Earth a favor. She, herself, took up the calling to destroy the weak and preserve the strong and noble, the race of Validus and demons. Flaps of large wings stirred up the air as the trail of human scent led to the vacant hospital. Not really intelligent pray they were, leading the Validus straight to their obvious hideout. Well, that was no fun; it then really wasn’t much of a hunt, more of a bothersome chase. Lilith descended from her aerial view as her gray boot covered feet touched daintily upon the asphalt of the parking lot that led to the hospital’s entrance. The crumbling walls and the shattered windows would lead someone to think this place is inhabitable. To the contrary, Lilith knew for a fact that this sanctuary was a common place for humanity to claim refuge other than under the protection of Soldiers’ headquarters. Before the Validus took a step forward, Lilith quickly turned her head to the side as a feeling of being watched paranoid her. Eyes of ebony-hued searched to her left then to the right of her. Her gaze swept through the sky but no one caught her eye. Folding her black wings close to her behind her back, the Validus shook the feeling off and entered the unprotected building. She entered through the empty threshold of where once sliding glass doors once stood. Underneath her flat sole boots, shards of glass crackled underneath the pressure of her weight. The Validus inhaled the stale air that teemed with the fresh, familiar scent of her soon to be victims. Turning to the right as she strode down the hall of the hospital, Lilith continued to silently follow the scent until she came to an intersection. The Validus quickly turned down the hallway as the scent grew stronger until it stopped at a door to her left. Lilith’s hand grabbed the hilt of her sword as she unsheathed the blade, purposely creating the sliding noise of metal against metal to strike fear into her pray that hid behind this door. With her free hand, the Validus grabbed the handle as she turned it clockwise to open it. Swinging the door open, Lilith stepped through the threshold as her demonic eyes settled on three humans cowering in the corner of the room. A trembling yet brave man shield what Lilith assumed to be his wife as tears leaked from her eyes. Behind the wife, a scared child clutched at her mother’s clothing. ”Please! Have mercy! Leave my wife and daughter be and take me!” said the male human as his wife sobbed out loud as Lilith stepped closer, raising her shadowed engulfed sword that glowed a dark purple in a striking position. Lilith’s features resembled no emotions except the bloodlust and hatred that glowed ominously in her black eyes and the menacing chuckle that escaped her throat. With a swing of her sword, Lilith cut diagonally on the man’s torso. Crimson blood began to flow out from the burned wound of the human as he fell lifeless to the floor. The woman screamed in terror as her little girl called out to her death stricken daddy. Suddenly the woman launched herself toward Lilith as she screamed to her girl to run. The woman grabbed Lilith’s wrists as she struggled against Lilith’s supreme strength to create a diversion so that her daughter could escape. Lilith effortlessly flung the woman into the wall and swung her sword in a swift movement across the woman’s stomach. The woman fell limp over her husband’s body. Blood dripped from Lilith’s blade as she turned her head in the direction of receding footsteps in a run. Lilith promptly turned her body around as her walk became a long gaited stride as it followed the footsteps. The little girl led her outside to the parking lot as Lilith easily gained up closer to the little human. In a moment of fear, the human girl tripped and coward on the ground as she faced Lilith, tears streaming down her eyes. ”Mommy! Daddy!” she cried as Lilith loomed over her. Lilith’s gaze looked down at the defenseless child. She began to raise her sword as she ready a single blow to the little human that screamed for her parents. Lilith began to swing downwards towards the child until a force halted her momentum. The Archangel had been here less than a week and already he had started to make an impact, even though it was a small one. Every little thing counted in the time of war, and this war was no different. Only the players in the game had changed. This time though, Michael had yet to do anything imporant. So far all he had done was work with the humans and listen to the reports of other angels. Like any war information and strategy was the key to victory. It didn't matter who many enemies there were, if you had a plan of attack you could survive. The only thing that was need besides those ingredients was morale. And that, before he had arrived, was low. At first no one had known who he was, but as he went through the day to day with the humans, helping them rebuild parts of the Church, planning defenses and listening to the other angels that were with that particualr group of humans, rumors had started. Each one that he heard was larger than the last, and the latest one claimed that he was the Almighty made angel come to Earth to save him. The blashpemy in that last one had sent Michael into the cold fury rage that he was known to have. Unfortunately, the humans were reading into his presence wrong, thinking him the Hero from a story, the one who would single handedly win this war. Though he was direct, Michael didn't have the heart to tell them that he was just there to help them.
This past week had consisted of him doing nothing more than planning and more planning. His muscle itched for action, his wings twitched in anticipation at things to come. Michael was built for only two things. To lead and to fight, and there hadn't been much of the latter for a long time, not since his last visit to Earth. Sitting ontop of a abandoned clocktower, his wings tucked on his back and one of his legs dangling over the side, he was able to see everything around him. The whole city lay underneath his icy blue gaze, and Michael could see everything that went on in the abandoned streets. Once in a while he would see a group of humans sneaking across a shattered street, hiding behind the destroyed wreckage of a car or tucking into a alleyway. For his high up seat, Michael knew that that group had a clear shot back to the Church, or where ever it was that they were hiding. Sometimes Michael would sit up here, high above this human world and look out on a city that was teaming full of demons. But today was a clear day, which normally would have been a good thing. Something in his stomach told him, that it was going to be otherwise.
Breathing in, Michael stood the cold wind rustling the majestic feather of his wings. Though he only wore a black t-shirt his skin bore no sign of goosebumps, as he didn't have time for that. It didn't matter the clothes that the angel wore as he carried himself as though it were armor. The only thing that suggested he was willing to fight, was the claymore strapped to his back, the hilt poking over his shoulder. Tucking his wings close, Michael leaned forward off the edge of the clocktower till he slipped off the edge. Waiting for a few seconds, he then snapped his wings open, the sudden resistants against his fall shooting him higher into the air. The breeze caught the necklace that was tucked into his shirt and pulled it free, the metal cross slipping close to his shoulder. A small child had given him that, telling him that if he was going to fight, even he would need it more than they did. That brought a small smile to the angels face as he slowly glided, every once and a while downstroking with his powerful majestic wings to keep him aloft, through the city.
At first the Church wasn't safe at all, but since Michael had arrived, he had managed to changed that. Now he was off to see if the other large group of humans needed his help as well. Having seen where the hospital was from up high, Michael altered his course and soon, drew his wings in slightly, landing on the rooftop of the main building of the hospital. The wind shifted and Michaels wings stiffened, tucking in his body, the cent that he had caught setting off every warning bell in his system, and yet, sent a sutble shivering ache through his heart that he had thought had disappeared long ago. Suddenly a scream cut through the air, and Michael wiped around, watching the scene unfold beneath him on the parking lot. A small child, a child! Lay shivering at the sight infront of her. Michael knew what she was going through as that terrible spectre of exquiste beauty and terrible fury loomed over her. He himself had seen that once and the sight still haunted him some days. Standing on the building of the roof, staring at the back of the Valdius, Michael was frozen, awash with memories of a anciet time long since past. Then, ”Mommy! Daddy!”. The pleading in that cry tore straight to Michaels heart and he dove of the building, using every muscle in his wings to launch himself forward, to put himself between that blade and the child. He saw the sword of purple shadows start to swing down and.......There! Michael grabbed the attackers wrist with all of his force, being forceful, but gentle. Automatically his wings were spread to their full length, each gleaming white feather seeming to imite their own light, to create as much a barrier as possible between the Valdius and the child that would not be her victuim. With his hand still keeping a good gripp on the slender wrist, Michael felt his heart flutter slightly as he looked again on the raven black hair and stunning eyes he had onced loved. "Lilith....." His musical voice still carresed the name despite his wishes, "Let her go..." Standing there, taking in all of her wicked glory after so many years, Michael knew that he would try.... no, that he would save her. Even if that meant from herself.

Perplexed and enraged that she’d had been interrupted, the Validus’ blackened eyes narrowed as they glared hatefully upon the trembling child that lay on the asphalt just a few feet from her. Her bloodlust screamed for the force to withdraw from her wrist, creating an oblivious view as to who it really was that stood next to her. She wanted it; she needed to satisfy her craving for the intoxicating scent of the blood from the child. The chest of the Validus inhaled and exhaled with the mixture of adrenaline and wrathfulness. With her animalistic instincts controlling her reflexes, Lilith grabbed for her other sheathed weapon that dangled on the same side as her freehand. Lilith managed to unsheathe the dagger that grew an ominous dark glow that comparison to her larger sword as the metals scraped each other. Only did when the luminous wings blocked her view of the girl did Lilith come to her higher senses than the beastly ones she let loose.
”Lilith….”
the all too familiar voice spoke out her name with such a talcum and compelling tune toward the Validus. He spoke with a musical note, one that Lilith could depict even if a garrison of voices echoed in her ears. She dared not to even think of his name for only a brief moment in her various thoughts. The narrowed ebony darkened eyes of Lilith widened with painful recognition as she felt his gaze observe hers. Instantly the black fogginess waned as her natural setting crystal blue eyes were exposed. Lifting her head, Lilith’s gaze connected to the Archangel’s staggering blue eyes before he spoke again. ”Let her go…” Her ears attempted to absorbed his tune even it did issue her a command, something she’d never listen to unless it came from certain mouths. Hesitant in what to do as primordial emotions began to glint in her soul that bubbled to her eyes. Swiftly, Lilith’s head lowered to cover her gaze from the Archangel’s view. The gaze stared indecisively in the blocked view of the child by the pallid feathers of his wings as if she could just stare right through their presence. Her breathing began to level as her psyche began to ache with confusion while she sorted out her emotion check list. The first sign of her decisiveness to withdraw her attack upon her victim was the ‘shing’ of the dagger at her side as the sheath engulfed the dull, normal blade. Lilith’s natural fiery skin felt cool where his fingers grasped her wrist with a firm yet delicate touch to it. His icy scent swirled around her nostrils as she breathed in and out while she fought for the slight control of her own free pumping adrenaline. Her tensed and flexed muscles within her arm commence d to rest from their uptight disposition as her fingers still securely gripped her hilt of her sword while dark purple shadows and fresh, scarlet blood churned around the blade. Her lips steadied as she produced a serene yet intimidating response once she found her voice that seemed to complete the Archangel’s lingering sentence. ”…For now.” Her gaze shifted from her frontal view as her eyes only rolled to view just a glimpse of the Archangel’s face. She dared not to keep a fixed gaze upon his own stare, and so she lowered her gaze to her sword. Not waiting for his grip around her wrist to loosen anymore, her muscles allowed her to tear away from his touch as in one movement she lowered her strike and sheathed her sword of shadows. The skin that held contact with his hand still significantly felt cooler than the rest of her arm, but soon the cold touch began to dull and mix away from her own heat. Disinterest shone in Lilith’s eyes as she just caught the glimpse of the child. The young girl stared in horror between the two winged figures before her, shaken by trepidation, yet she found enough feeling in her body and the urge in her young mind that this was her chance to escape her almost sealed fate. For just a second, the little girl stared at the Archangel in reassurance that it was safe for her to run. Without another moment passing, the little child stumbled from shock as she rose to her feet; she began to run for cover from the Archangel and Validus among the buildings of Tamaya. "I’ll find you again," hissed Lilith’s thoughts silently as she turned away from her ancient enemy, treading in the opposite direction from the child, her back turned against the male Archangel. Her footsteps stopped once she was just a few feet away than a few inches from her past acquaintance, well more than just an acquaintance. ”Hello, Michael,” began Lilith as her eyes finally reached for his memorable gaze. ”Missed your handiwork?” spat Lilith, her words saturated with a venomous muse as her lips curved into a sadistic smirk. How had it come to this? Things had not always been this way. They had been happy once, a long time ago, what was just a faded memory now. For what had seemed for a time, everything had been in the right place. Nothing would ever come between his siblings and him and life would be joyous for all of them. Of course that was how Michael had felt, but obviously the other two, the only ones that Michael had truly loved with is heart, hadn't felt that way. How had it come to this? His beloved sister stood before him, but a stranger filled her eyes, the person he had once known and trusted swallowed by a monster that was focused on nothing other than spilling every drop of the cowering girl's blood. Though he was often called emotionless, underneath his chest his heart beat furiously, pumping the pangs of guilt and sadness through him as he stuided this...beast. The fact that he saw no recognition flash in her eyes was the thing that hurt him the most.
It seemed like eternity, even though the archangel had experianced that, until the black bloodlust that covered her eyes started to wain, and forever again until the shining polished crystal of her eyes shone through. Though he had cased her down himself, had watched from above as her stunning wings decayed into darkness he hadn't realised that he had held some small hope that she had remained untouched. That hope was destroyed the moment his cold blue eyes met with the clear blue pools that were hers. Instintivly he slammed up his mental barriers as he stared into, no through her eyes. Once they were warm and held lights of happiness. Now, they sickened him. It seemed like pure reverly shone out in a feverish blaze at what she had become, what she had done to become it. She truly was a monster. Just when he thought that he wouldn't be able to hold that fierce crystal gaze for much longer, the Valdius lowered her head. The motion triggered memories in Michaels mind and harshly he stomped on the emotions that flooded up with it.
The Archangel had noticed that the Valdius had drawn a dagger. Why wouldn't he think her name? Though his mental defenses were up, he still didn't want to risk the change that she would read his thoughts. A soft 'shink' filled the air, shattering a silence that he hadn't noticed was there and softly he let go of a breath that he had been holding, which he hadn't noticed as well. When she had first bared the dagger he didn't think that she would actually use it, but now, after having looked in her eyes, he wasn't so sure. Abruptly he noticed that his natural icy skin was warm where he held her and this close, he could easily smell the musky, spiciy scent of her flesh.
"For now..." Her voice grated against his spine and made the hairs on his arm stand erect. It was too cold, to serene. Thoughts floated to the surface of his mind. Would he be able to ameliorate her? Had she sunk so far that she couldn't be saved? As he thought, he felt her tense and let her go as she pulled away. He didn't want to fight her, but he didn't want to keep her caged as well. She was different from who she had been, but he still didn't want to threaten her. Finding nothing else to do with them, Michael crossed his arms across his chest, the angelic symbols on his elbows showing clearly, and watched, quietly as she sheathed her sword. Instantly Michael was aware of the child and the way that Lilith stared at her, but the Archangel knew that the little girl was safe for another day. Still standing with his arms crossed, Michael's gaze followed the Valdius as she turned her back on his, her black wings seeming to mock him. The last time he had seen her back, her wings had been white. The last time he had seen her, she had chosen their brother, Lucifer, over him and he had been forced to break his heart as cast her down into the Pit. ”Hello, Michael, missed your handiwork?” His wings jerked slightly to show her that the comment had hit home. Ignoring her, he tried to swtich the topic. "I should have known that you would have been one of the first one's here."He knew enough of her to recognize her own work. Then, as if to himself,"Its been too long sister." Even though he wished to deny it, as much as he was supposed to hate her, it was good to see her face again. What the Validus saw the Archangel’s eyes, there was not the ancient love or sadness, nor recent hate, but of perplex disgust that fogged his eyes as he stared into hers. A look that one Michael would have never given Lilith; well, that was then, and things had changed. To the Validus, the look sliced a heartstring deep within the pit of Lilith’s bitter heart. Even though she’d calloused herself with pain and torture in the years of Hell, just a single appalled stare from Michael’s eyes created a slight uneasiness at the bottomless pit Lilith called her soul. She attempted to shade her eyes from his view as she felt this unfamiliar discomfort that coursed through her body. There, the Validus Lilith stood in front of her brother; she, now different from him and stronger than what she was and as he was all those years ago. Once Lilith spat out her vicious mockery toward Michael, she matched his casual pose as her right hand loosely grabbed her left lower bicep, close to her elbow in a casual position. Her movements avoided the hilt of her sword to the fullest as she attempted to not spark a metal feud in this confrontation. Unknowingly like him, Lilith too did not wish to fight him, not now. Her mindset had shaken from his appearance after empty centuries without seeing his face.
Just pondering her weakness created a sickness in her; she was Lilith, a feared Validus, a lethal enemy to humanity and here her heart ached from what was a love and betrayal thousands of years ago. Lilith recoiled from those ancient emotions and dived off the edge into her well known and recent feelings of rage and hate. Her grin vanished slowly into a serene façade; her icy, crystal blue eyes the only source of the heat within her soul. The Validus smirked within her head as the Archangel avoided her question and commented her presence on earth but vanished quickly once she witnessed a shaken shift in the Archangel’s wings. Her first comment to Michael held more venom as it built up over the countless of centuries since the last day he casted her and their brother, Lucifer, to the pit. ”I should have known that you would have been one of the first one’s here.”
His soft, virtuous tone had not changed since those days while he spoke again to her, this time directly at Lilith. In those times, his voice was a whimsical tune in the once Archangel’s head. Now, it just grated her soul until it was raw from those hidden emotions over centuries. A forced, leering smile just curved the ends of Lilith’s painted light pink lips. ”First in line, baby.” The heartless tune softly cooed out innocently the words. Her sneering comment did not hold as much sting as she would have in most situations. Just his sanctified presence was affecting the old Lilith inside and creating a weakling of the new Lilith; this wretchedness had to cease inside of her. What dissolved the snapped heartstring within Lilith’s soul was what Michael spoke secondly, almost as if he had not meant to say it out loud but in his own mind. ”It’s been too long sister.” The Validus did not open her lips to answer Michael, only a whisper in her opened mind. ”It has, my...” Lilith paused as she caught herself before she continued, changing the end of her sentence clearly. ”Michael.” He probably did not hear her thoughts. Since his appearance to stop the slaughter of the little human thing, Lilith made no attempt to barricade her mind against the Archangel, but the feeling was probably not mutual. Intimidated by the ravenous beast inside that escaped Lilith just moments at their meeting, he’d most likely built that defense. By her presence, the Archangel probably would not attempt a dim-witted move Lilith pulled off now. How reckless of her, but she knew Michael, or did. Faking the masquerade of the monster inside Lilith, the Validus exhaled a deep breath from her lungs in attempt to escape all emotions of the Archangel that stood before her. Only just a moment of silence passed between them before Lilith spoke out again, her voice rigged with daggers. ”I was wondering when you’d show. Well, with the whole earth going to Hell and all. ” Lilith started, casually she took a step to the side, her heel-less gray boots creating a muffled footstep on the asphalt. Her bare arms exposed to the odd cold did not hinder her body temperature due to her higher average temperature in her body. This cold was more of a nuisance; she’d prefer the burning flames of fire. ”So where is the rest of your mindless crew?” Lilith finished as her lips pressed together. Her other brothers and sisters would most likely attempt to kill her on sight, and she would show them the same ‘kindness’. Her last contact with her ancient kin was with her skirmish with Azrael just a few days ago; she should have finished him when she held his chains. Now, her attention was upon her other brother, Michael. The one that condemned her, the one that did not help her, the one that betrayed her. For an instant, Michael suddenly realised how easy it would be for someone, or some angel to fall, no matter what their rank or position. When he looked upon Lilith's ageless face again after centuries of it's absence, feeling surged against the mental block that he had put up against them. His own mental defenses were strong as he had spent years developing the ability to deny accesss to any archangel, angel, demon or Valdius imaginable. There was noone who should be able to see into his mind as the information there was for his mind and his mind only. If anyone else should see the things that went on in his mind then everything could be comprimised. Plus he had no wish for any of his enemies to know his innermost thoughts. And so he had spent years also building up a defense against the human emotions that his human form was often plauged with. Never had he truly had a problem with them before until he looked upon the face that had been missing from his life. It was as though they were shut out from his mind behind a thick glass wall. When the grin slid off her face, Michael could feel every emotion swell up against the barrier he had created as though they had a life of there own and wanted freedom. If they were to be let out for even a moment, disater would occur.
And so Michael slammed his mental foot down on his emotions. She was just another demon, a fallen comrade. Worse, she was a higher demon which meant that she deserved to taste the steel of his blade more than anyone. His icy blue eyes locked with hers as he tried to harden himself against his past feelings for her. It had been the past afterall and she had betrayed their father and their siblings. She had betrayed him. The slight trendils of anger gripped him, and his blue eyes took on a even deeper level of cold fire as he looked at this wretched creature infront of him. Yes, she would have to be destroyed like all the others that he had cut down. Even if he wanted to save her with all his heart. Maybe his Lilith was still inside this creature somewhere. Until then, she was just another demon.
”First in line, baby.” This statement from her set a fire burning in his belly. The fact that it seemed like she almost had pride in those words made his insides curl. The idea that she would actually be willing to be one of the first ones to jump straight into murdering thousands of humans. This was proof to him that she wasn't the same person that he had known. His Lilith had been nothing like this Lilith. This was the monster that his brother had created. This was Lucifer's Lilith. Michael shifted slightly, his wings pulling intowards his body, and then disappearing all together. If he stood around in a place for a while they always seemed to automatically do that. This situation was the same way. And if for some reason this chance meeting went ary, then he didn't want his wings getting in the way of his sword. After the words slipped out of his mouth, Michael instantly regretted saying them until, It has, my... Michael.” Hope fluttered behind the barrier. She had been going to use a different word he knew that, but what word would it have been? Was this a slight hesitation only to toy with him? Or was this some of the Archangel's Lilith shining through? But before he could say or do anything to find out, that icy cold monster was back in Lilith's place, and Michael felt his heart harden. ”I was wondering when you’d show. Well, with the whole earth going to Hell and all. ” As she took a step to the side, Michael mirrored her movenment, going the opposite direction to keep the same amount of space between them. The sound of her heels reached his ears, and felt odd when he listened for the echo of his own footsteps and heard none. Michael had always had a silent footfall. "It was not my time, nor my place to interfere with this plot of my brother's and yours. You should know that." Michael's eyes flashed as he uncrossed his arms and let them hang by his sides. "The humans had to be given a change to solve this for themselves."That much had been true. He hadn't been allowed to enter the fry himself though he despretly wanted to. His Father had forbidden it as he had wished the humans to fend for themselves. But the demon hordes had been too great, so Michael had been sent down to help. Along with all of his true and loyal brothers and sister. ”So where is the rest of your mindless crew?” Michael's gaze snapped to her with a sudden cold blasting fury. A smirk threatened to play on the corners of his lips as he watched her move, this Mistress of the Pit. "If you need to know, they are serving out our Father's will and riding this world of you puppets" And again that much was true."Unlike those prior to them, I know that each and everyone of them is loyal to their brothers." He wanted to say more, to lash out with the emotions that he felt bubbling behind the barrier in his mind, but he wouldn't. Mainly, he just wanted to try and smother his feelings for this particualr Valdius with hate.
